New Year, New Resolutions

Too smiley for Goth, but the '80s band vibe is strong. Coming to a library near you... but don't let that worry you!

Well it’s that time of year again where I have to remember that everything is 2019. Yes that’s right… 2019. Not, of course, that on a website such as this you have to spend too much time writing today’s date – it’s often dates in the 18th, 19th centuries after all!

Heritage, and the past, doesn’t just have to revolve around dates that are beyond living memory. One of the strengths of this site is, in my opinion, the fact that it records peoples’ living memories, or that of their friends, relatives, elders. It adds colour to the past, and a social insight, that can often be lost when we take it for granted.

A new chance to look to the past

So a new year seems an ideal opportunity to look to that more immediate past. As part of the Warwickshire Bytes project (if you haven’t read about it, do so now!) we’ll be telling the story of Warwickshire in 100 objects, and gathering stories as a result of that. The Our Warwickshire website is an ideal host for this, of course, and Warwickshire Museum will kick this off by sharing some objects from their collection. After this, from April onwards, we’ll be running some workshops to do with that, where we’ll be looking for your contributions. Without you, we’re nothing.

No doubt we’ll tell you more about these workshops nearer the time, but we’re also visiting libraries from the end of January. These library visits are mainly to let you know about volunteering opportunities with the Warwickshire Bytes project, and what’s going down. The main thing is, if you’ve got an interest, come along and speak to us – we want to speak to you! There’ll also be the opportunity to speak to me of course… I’ll let you decide if that’s a good thing!

So, just the start of a year that promises to be bright and sparkling. As ever, we’ll keep you updated from our end, but I’m sure it doesn’t need to be emphasised that this is your website, your county, your heritage. You’ve made this site what it is, and will be the ones to help it grow. For this, I thank you.
