Near Belonging: Meeting Across Time

Merged Portrait Gallery

This is more a pictures than words update, as the merged new and old portraits are now all complete and have been shared with participants, so I’d love to share them here too. They have a more profound impact when seen with the audio conversations playing, the recorded voice adds such a lot of humanity to how you see the ‘sitter’, but even in silence I think they’re powerful.

I hope you find the gallery touching. For many of these archive images this is the first time they’ve been seen ‘on a screen’ and shared so publicly. I’m aware their permission can’t be sought and their lived circumstances remain unknown because of the dislocating nature of their discovery, but I hope the respect we have for the collection is apparent in these new, befriended, versions.
