The museum and its collection exist thanks to Shipston-on-Stour and District Local History Society. With its long title to ensure it includes all surrounding villages, the society was formed back in the mid 1960s.

Shipston Museum re-opened in 2023. Open every Saturday and Sunday from 12-4pm from Easter to September.
