Here is another pictorial village sign: Cubbington. The picture is of the village church and my photo shows that it is an accurate representation (with only a little bit of artistic license). St Mary’s Church is a Grade I listed building originally dating from around the time of the Normans, though clearly it has been altered since then, and is well worth a visit.
If you know of any other pictorial signs – or the history behind one – then please send us details and a photo.
And do let us know if this Church was the scene of a significant event in your life or that of your family.
Comments
My mum’s family have lived in Cubbington for many years, her maiden name was Rose and her mother was a Draper, which is a well known Cubbington family name. My grandparents were married there and are also buried there. My mum and her sisters were christened at the church and my mum was in the church choir when she was a child (1940s). My great grandparents are buried there too but they never had a grave stone, we think they are now under the shed in the graveyard that was put up about 40 years ago!
