Spring has come and with it the wonderful sight of bluebells in the ancient woodlands of Warwickshire. A few are in the path of HS2, but most will survive to give pleasure to walkers in the future. Here is a picture of my favourite bluebell wood at Ryton Pools Country Park; though beware – this year it is muddier than usual as a result of all the recent rain. (Crackley wood near Kenilworth is dryer and flatter.) As you can see there was a family of swans at Ryton too and other spring flowers, Primroses, Violets and Wood Anemones. See Ryton Pools Country Park for details.

My favourite Bluebell wood is Cubbington Woods ( The Nob as it’s known to locals) I have visited the wood many times throughout my child and adult life and have taken my children to see the bluebells in recent years so that they see it before HS2 destroys it. In the wood is a large ditch, I remember as a kid being told it was where a bomb dropped during the war but I am not sure if that is true. Does anyone know? I will ask my mum as she lived in Cubbington during WW2 and might remember.
