Notes about this historic site
1 Evidence of Medieval occupation on the site of the present village was found in 1975 when foundation trenches for an extension to a house in Church Street were dug. Lying directly on the Upper Lias, at a depth of between 0.75m and 1m, was a cobbled floor on which lay eight sherds of 12th to 15th century date. The cobbles appeared worn and were of a consistent size, but it was not possible to determine their nature or extent in the area available for examination (2.5m x 2.75m).
