The fossilised remains of trilobites are well known from layers of shale in the Hartshill area of northern Warwickshire, dating back over half a billion years to the Cambrian Period. The louse-like animals lived in ancient seas that covered the area at that time, representing some of our county’s most ancient inhabitants.
