These are naturally occurring nodules of limestone collected from a cement quarry at Southam, enclosing many beautifully preserved fossil ammonites.
The fossil shells were concentrated by storm currents, and later cemented by naturally occurring minerals to form the nodules that we find today. Ancient climatic indicators such as these show how our collections can be part of the key to the future, not just the past.
