Description of this historic site

The site of a fire based decoy bombing installation known as a permanent Starfish from the Second World War. Night time blazes were created to confuse enemy aircraft and draw them away from their real target. Documentary evidence gives this grid reference west of Maxstoke.

1 The site of a fire based bombing decoy site from the Second World War known as a permanent Starfish. Fire based decoys were set up following the bombing of Coventry in November 1940 to protect urban areas, in this case Birmingham. A variety of effects were devised to simulate fires such as those from incendiary bombs.
