Description of this historic site
The site of a blacksmiths workshop where iron was worked. It dates to the Imperial period and was situated 200m to the south west of the church. It is marked on the Ordnance Survey map of 1887.

Comments
In the 1911 census William Greatbatch was recorded as a blacksmith in Church Street, Middleton. He later became the landlord of the Dog & Doublet in Kingsbury (1939 national register).
