Comments
It is possible that the name Brick Kiln Spinney actually refers to the spinney (unnamed) which is next to it. This spinney contains three ditch features – very shallow, probably due to the alluvial fill typical of silted up ponds. These might be the site of clay extraction. The presence of clay is indicated by their damp nature. That no surface remains were found possibly indicates that “they” were looking in the wrong place. It is very easy to mistake the location of features in early mapping.
