Description of this historic site

An area of quartzite stones located by excavation in 1997. This has been interpreted both as a dump of stones for the construction of field drains in the area or a floor surface, possibly 17th century in date.

Notes about this historic site

1 An area of quartzite stone was discovered in 1997 just to the north east of the church. It was suggested that this was the remains of a dump of stones for use in constructing the quartzite land drains found in the area and suggested to be 17th century in date.
2 3 An alternative suggestion was put forward as a floor surface, possibly of a building of 17th century date.
