Tales from the Collections - Letter from Egypt
A letter home written by Corporal Charles John Shrieve on 24th May 1916 while he was serving with the Warwickshire Yeomanry during World War One in the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in Egypt and Palestine, August 1915 to October 1917.

Charlie wrote many letters home to his family.  In this letter he talks wistfully of coming home. He died in action in November 1917.

The letter is performed by Kieron Attwood, one of the actors involved in the ‘Fallen Voices’ production at the Spa Centre in October 2015 as part of HCW’s Warwickshire at War project, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Warwick District Council.

This article is part of a series of online Show and Tells first created by Warwickshire County Record Office during the Covid 19 crisis in 2020 to help provide access to their collections whilst the record office was closed.
