Nuneaton Memories were passed this diary by a family member. What particularly stands out at the beginning is the length of time needed to reach their station, but also the ebb and flow of life at the trenches; instead of it being a constant time at the front line, Clark is sent on guard, three kilometres back. Indeed, this rotation of troops stops Clark and his party from getting through to the front line of the trenches at one stage, as the German shelling prevents them getting any further than the entrance.
