Description of this historic site

The site of Kinwarton Manor House which dated to the Post Medieval period. It is known from documentary evidence and it was located 100m north of the church at Kinwarton.

Notes about this historic site

1 The site of the Manor House, a small inclosure surrounded by a moat. In the C17 and C18 it was occupied by the Hopkins family, being described as the Manor House in 1624 and 1663 and in 1722 as the Great Farm. In the Hearth Tax returns of 1662-74 it is rated as six hearths. It was pulled down before 1752, when the map marks only its site.
2 There is no surface indication of the Manor House. Duplicate of OS card in FI file.
3 Form recording that work and an associated survey took place at the site in 1981-2.
