Possible Medieval Settlement Earthworks in Ladbroke
The possible site of a settlement dating to the Medieval period. It is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. An excavation revealed a Medieval enclosure but no evidence of occupation. It is located 500m east of the church, Ladbroke.
2 Traces of earthworks which may represent the remains of Medieval settlement have been identified on air photographs. The earthworks were confirmed on the ground during a site visit in connection with a planning application (see FI file).
3 An archaeological evaluation recovered no significant features. Although the eastern corner of the site was enclosed by a ditch in the Medieval period, no evidence was recovered for occupation or agricultural activity. The area was extensively quarried for stone in the medieval and Post Medieval periods.
