Photo shows Mr William Worrall in the employ of Garside Phillips; we think the photo dates around 1920 but are not sure. Garside Phillips owned the former Ansley Hall and was a large benefactor to the church of St Lawrence, Ansley Village and the Phillips family are all buried in the churchyard. Garside’s Great Great Grandson was Captain Mark Phillips, who was HRH Princess Anne’s first husband.

Mark,
Thank you for posting this. I have only ever seen the 1911 picture of Bill with the 1911 Wolsey which as head groomsman he had to collect from Coventry on foot, get training on the car and then drive it back.
Yes I believe that was your great grandad
I am puzzled about his name being William Worrall instead of Bill. My Great Great great Grandfather was employed by the Phillips and in the painting of him that my family own shows his name as Bill.
My late grandfather was a fitter, and later probably 1942-1959 when he retired, the enginewright at Ansley Hall. He told me that when he was promoted, Joe Phillips said to him ‘Jack, you can have anything you need, provided it doesn’t cost me any money.
He also said that Joe Phillips was a drinking man, and that from time to time the chauffer would have to take him to a drying out clinic, but Joe would have him stop at a pub on the way so he could ‘fill up’ before the drying out treatment started.
That apart, he was apparently, a good colliery manager
