St Emmanuela’s was a HORSA classroom, short for ‘Hutting Operation for the Raising of the School-leaving Age’. These pre-cast concrete classrooms were constructed soon after World War II and were meant to be a short term measure to cope with buildings being destroyed in the war, the post-war baby boom and the raising of the school leaving age to 15. Does anyone remember any more about St Emmanuela’s? Perhaps you were in this class?
