I attended this school in the ’60s. I remember the end facing us was lived in by the headmasters family, a Mrs Williams taught me – as a young child I found her frightening. Sunday School, the school handbell, the outside toilets a far cry from today’s schools but probably better than the youngsters in the picture.
I too went to Lawford school . I started in early 1951 and remember it well . Our headmaster was a Mr Whyn Jones and the teachers were Miss Bradbury ,Miss Gabbot ,Mrs Parish , Mr Smith and others I can’t quite remember . We lived at the bottom of the Main Street near the graveyard before moving to Elizabeth Way .
I left the UK in 1971 and now live in Australia . I have returned on many occasions and still have strong ties to the village .
I went to school here in 1945 to 1947 and I remember one of my teachers was Mr. Everard. He gave me a penny for getting ten out of ten in spelling.. My mother also attended school there in 1915 and I have a picture of her dancing around the maypole.
