When this photograph was taken I was six and living in number 2 cottage with my Mum, Dad and older brother, when the floods came what little furniture we had was inched up with bricks and we had to live upstairs , there was a fire place in Mum and Dad’s bedroom so that served as our heating and cooking; we had no running water or mains toilets so life was very primitive. I don’t remember the fire brigade ever coming to “pump” us out so I guess we just had to wait until the water went down and then what a mess all the dirt ,mud and silt, and this happened numerous times in a year, no wonder my poor old Mum wanted to leave and live in a house with all mod cons.
