Notes about this historic site
1 A watching brief was carried out to observe terracing and the cutting of foundation trenches in connection with an extension to the rear of the existing building. The deposits contained occasional hand made roof tile and brick of possible 18th century or earlier date but no other artefacts of pre 19th century manufacture. A sandstone wall 0/80m wide was recorded, aligned east-west which followed the southern boundary of the former (originally medieval) tenement, but is likely to represent the remains of the malt house marked on a map of 1851.
