Notes about this historic site
1 The site is situated on the crest of a rise above the River Dene and almost abuts a disused quarry dug into the side of the slope. Stone on the surface includes flat slabs, some of which appear to have been shaped. The site covers a central area of about 400 sq metres tapering off into small scatters outside this. No brick or tile but large quantities of early Roman pottery including Samian.
