Site of Manor House at Wormleighton Deserted Settlemen
The site of the manor house at Wormleighton deserted settlement. It was built during the Medieval period, but by the late 1400s is believed to have been in a desolate state. It probably finally fell out of use when the owners built a new residence elsewhere.
1 The manor house is thought to have been in a very dilapidated condition towards the end of the 15th century, presumbably because it no longer served as a major residence for an important family; indeed it may well have sheltered only a bailiff or an ambitious tenant farmer. By 1519 John Spencer had built himself a new manor house on the hill.
