Site of 'Castle End' Pound at Smalley Place
The site of a pound used for penning livestock in the Imperial period. It was situated 50m north of the Police station, on the site of a modern hotel.
1 Here was the ‘Castle End’ pound. It was triangular in shape and part of the two N walls survive flanking the entrance path to a house in Borrow Well Lane. The third (S) wall was sited on what is now road. NB The road was widened and cut into what was the pound.
2 There is no sign of the site today and a hotel and garden occupies the ground, along with the road.
