Notes about this historic site

1 A concrete footbridge erected in 1934; but a stone let into one of the side piers records the existence of a bridge on the site in 1599. Information exists for the bridge in the 17th century. The old bridge was apparently a wooden structure resting on stone piers. It was rebuilt in 1812 and in 1827 the passage was widened by the removal of one of the piers. It was again rebuilt in 1867.
