Notes about this historic site

1 In 1607 a hoard of 250 silver coins of Henry III was found, together with three finger rings (one gold with ruby, one gold with agate and one silver with a central stone carrying an Arabic inscription). Also found were two or three coins of Trajan, ‘catch-hooks and keepers of silver’ and links of an ‘old-fashioned’ gold chain. The finds were made when a large square stone was removed from the crossroads of Watling Street and the ‘road to Coventry’ at Higham.
