Earthwork banks in Salford Priors

Description of this historic site

A rectilinear area formed by earthwork banks can be seen on aerial photographs between the Bell Inn and St Mathews Church Salford Priors.

Notes about this historic site

1 A rectilinear area formed by earthwork banks seen on aerial photographs between the Bell Inn and St Mathews Church was mapped as part of the English Heritage National Mapping Project.
2 The area seems to have been subject to quarrying and the possible fourth side of a what could be a rectangular enclosure is missing. The location of this feature, near to the church, would be in a position where a manor house would commonly be found. Alternatively it is spoil dumped in a manner that has the appearance of a building platform.
3 Quite clearly a moat in the LiDAR imagery.
4 Noted by the AOC Assessment of Local Service Villages for Stratford-on-Avon District Council in 2012 from LiDAR.
