Wolston. Windmill
Almost nothing is known about Wolston Windmill built on Lammas Hill. It was a tower mill with batter, staging and four common sails.
The excavation
A dig on Lammas Hill in 1950 uncovered the base of a windmill.

Probably not Wolston (no windmill is marked on 1880s OS maps) but Woolscott Mill at Grandborough, finally demolished about 1930.
From all enquires I very much dobt if there was ever a Windmill in Wolston. That ‘mound’ on Lammas Hill is most probably a tumulus (similar to the one on Knightlow hill, but has been ‘excavated’ (robbed) in the centre. There is elsewhere a reference to a windmill ‘demolishing’ in 1953 – however that it the date of Marson Water mill demolition (the house is still there)
