This is the Canal bridge of my youth before we started working. Swimming in the canal in the summertime holidays from school and cross country route in winter at school.Before the bridge was replaced when the road was straightened barges would get stuck because of the bend in the canal.The few cars that were on the road then would have to stop and sound their horn before crossing.
