Notes about this historic site
1 Tollhouse marked on the Banbury Road at its juntion with Gallows Hill. It is marked on the OS 1st edition 1″ map, and is pictured on a photograph of 1930.
2 The tollhouse is now a dwelling.
3 The road was turnpiked in 1725, so the tollhouse was probably built around this time.

I remember my mother taking me there when I was little, it was a sweet shop then. Happy memories.
I remember the guy that lived there in the late 90’s he kept bees and opened his hives to me in the correct garments….very interesting and a nice guy…..don’t remember his name.
I also remember the sweet shop that was run by a lovely old lady called Mrs Castleford. She lived there I think from 1950s-1975/6 when sadly she was broken into and was badly beaten up if my memory is correct.
