Three or possibly four Post Medieval rubbish pits were observed to the rear of a property in Long Street, Atherstone during archaeological work.

Notes about this historic site
1 Three adjacent pits were uncovered in the northern part of the development and a possible fourth in the central area. Pit 3 fill comprised 50% pottery sherds while pits 1, 2 and 4 contained much less. Majority of the pottery was post-1800 and domestic in nature. The pits are thought to be refuse pits associated with a row of cottages extant in 1903.
