Quarry off Leicester Lane, Cubbington

Description of this historic site

The site of a quarry which was in use during the Post Medieval and Imperial periods. It is marked on an estate map of 1766. It was used as a rubbish tip from 1949 onwards. It is located 600m south of Cotton Mill Spinney.

Notes about this historic site

1 The quarry is shown on Leigh estate map of 1766. The people of Cubbington had the right to quarry stone there as early as 1768 which is known from enclosure awards of that year.
2 The land was leased to the the District Council for use as a rubbish tip in 1949 and is now presently leased to the County Council.
