This was a wooden post mill built in the early 17th century. It had an open trestle, four common sails, roof hipped and extension at tail, two pairs of stones, ladder and tailpole.
The sails were off by 1907, but the internal gear was in working order until the mill was demolished in 1910-11.
A milling family
The Falkner family were millers, millwrights and bakers and living in Warmington for several centuries. Other members of the family were millers in the Cropredy and South Newington areas.
Comments
As a child I lived in Windmill Cottage, Warmington. There was a mound in the garden which we believed to be the site of the mill. Also old mill stones. This was at the top of the hill, approximately 250 metres north of Camp Lane B4086 and a similar distance west and uphill of Warmington village at 52°07’34.9″N 1°24’22.8″W. Were there two mills?
