The Sheldon Tapestry: Stratford

Stratford-upon-Avon ‘STRETFORD’

This is the Stratford Shakespeare would have been familiar with. The bridge over the River Avon – Clopton Bridge – was built in the 15th century. It still exists today, carrying the A3400 road.

The tall tower which dominates the town is Holy Trinity church. On April 24th 1564, William Shakespeare was baptised here. Today tourists from all over the world visit his grave.
