I have been trying to identify a barber’s shop that was situated in Murray Road near the cattle market in the 1950s and 1960s. Can you help me?
Thanks

The large building at the end on the left would be the corner of Murray and Craven Road. There were two barbers just round the corner.
I asked people on the Facebook page Past and Present Memories of Rugby. Some of the comments were that there is still a barbers on the corner of Murray Road and Abbey Road called Fosters. However, that was possibly a bookies in the ’50s.
This is a further comment from the Facebook page. It was run by Keith Foster at number 56. The shop front is still visable but it is now a private house. Keith then ran a barbers from a shop on the corner of Craven Road/Murray Road. Keith Foster started as an apprentice with Dougie Morris who ran a hairdresser’s business in Craven Road.
There was a hairdressing business quite near the cattle market in the late 1950s: B. J. Trillo, at 191 Railway Terrace.
If there was a hairdresser anywhere in Murray Road during the early 1950s it appears to have gone by late 1956/ early 1957 (ref. Rugby Directory 1957).
