Atherstone. Wilson and Stafford Hatters
This is me in the photograph working at the hatters. I was a settler in the bumping shop, so I had to put the material through a roller so many times, till it went down to the right size, it was all steam and rollers and bumping down.
I finished at Wilson and Stafford in 1997, and a year or two later the factory closed.

I worked at the factory for 40 years. I worked in the trimming room and my brother worked in the gas blocking (forming the hats using steam after making the blocks hot). My sister also worked there, she did the perforating, the fancy work round the hat and the machining as well.
