Hi there has anyone any information about a caravan site ..I believe was called South Farm Caravan Site Whitnash ..in 1954 ?
I was told it was in the grounds that were previously the golf course ! I can find no information regarding this site ..although told it was taken over by the council in aprox 1960/66 and the tenants were moved into council housing in St. Helens road etc .. in particular a family or lady name of Mrs Brown ..I believe she or member of her family can help me find my half sibling .. I would be grateful for any help please ..
Please help ..
Was working on the Golf course in 1954.
Can tell you that there was a small field
With 3 or 4 caravans on at the far end of
GOLF LANE, but Not on the Golf Course,
It was sited beside the railway line to
Banbury. Beleive the land was part of
MARKHAMS FARM. With the farm house
And milking sheds behind the spinney on
The Golf Course that had access from
GOLF LANE.
RE:—- JOHN MORRELL (08/10/2021).
IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING,that South Farm
Caravan Site, was situated in a field behind
The Plough and Harrow public house, Approx.
Where HARROW ROAD is now.
A site with 3 or 4 caravans on existed in a
Field at the far end of Golf Lane, not on
The golf course as far as I was aware it was
Part of the MARKHAMS farm the farmhouse
And milking sheds were behind the spinney
On the golf course.with access from Golf Lane.
RE:— John Morrell.
Further to the above, have not known council
Houses in St. Helens Road at that time, could
Be wrong but it may be that the houses you
Mention could be the development that took
Place on Mr. BRADSHAW’S smallholding from
Which he sold produce.
In 1952 before the Coronation, an addition to
Windmill Road took place, about the time you
Mention a terraced block of 4 of these houses
No’s 49 to 55 were demolished to provide access to more properties on Mr. BRADSHAWS
smallholding.think these may be those .
With reference to the Brown family, before
Lamas Croft was built a Brown family lived at
57 Heathcote Road,Whitnash. The block they
Lived in was demolished to develope Lamas
Croft.and they moved to Bishop Tachbrook.
But not suggesting they are the family you
Seek out.
