By West Gate in Warwick is the Lord Leycester Hospital. Originally built as a house for a religious order, it was converted into a “hospital” for ex-service personnel in the reign of Elizabeth I by the Earl of Leicester.
According to one report a headless ghost used to wander around in the hospital.
Above the West Gate is the chapel of St James. When some restoration work was being conducted, a headless skeleton in a suit of armour was found concealed in a wall cavity. After it was given a more conventional burial, the hauntings seemed to stop.
