It was still exactly like this in the early 1960’s. You went through that gate into a little shop that sold ice cream. I can remember buying a Strawberry Split lolly from there when out for a bike ride with my brother through the leafy lanes from Whitnash. I think the first changes to the road junction were made towards the end of the 1960’s, maybe about 1967.
Me too , I remember a little old lady selling me and Mum sweets etc. in her tiny shop there . I was around fourteen then in about 1965 and often went on my bike as well because I only lived just up the road at The Asps a terrace of four (or was it three?) houses where the Fulcher family lived too , I think all male heads of the families worked on various nearby farms including my Dad .
