I’ve been involved with the church since I was born. Our family has a very strong connection – my parents had 150 years of church membership between them and my great-grandfather was involved with the move from Brotherhood House to the new building in Regent Place and the setting up of the church here. I came through the Sunday School and the Girls’ Brigade. I remember our Sunday School anniversaries which people would get dressed up for – often with new clothes. We had a choir for the anniversaries too, which adults and children (including me) would practice hymns and songs for.
The church produced musicals for a few years in the ’90s, including ‘The Gift’ by Graham Kendrick, and several by Roger Jones (a Birmingham writer of musicals) including ‘Jairus’s Daughter’ and ‘While Shepherds Watched’. I sang in the choir and really enjoyed it. They were so popular we had to have a couple of performances for some of them. I’ve been a Sunday School teacher for many years, also an Explorer leader and now help with Regent Tots.
