My mother worked at Courtaulds in the late 50s and early 60s as a bobbin spinner. Many of the ladies of Nuneaton worked in the textile industry as there were mills dotted all over the town, for instance Lister Street, Attleborough (where Milverton House School is now) and Fielding and Johnson, Attleborough. There was lots of movement between the mills as there were always vacancies to filled. It was all piecework, and as a consequence there were lots of accidents.
Both my parents worked at the site since they came to this country in the early 60s. My mum was a supervisor in the 70s working morning 6-2 and 2-10 shifts whilst my dad did the later shifts. I have fond memories of Christmas parties and happy happy times 🙂

My grandad was night watchman and sweeper at the factory for about 20 years before it closed
