Nuneaton Memories
Nuneaton Memories were given an album full of photographs all believed to have been taken by prolific Nuneaton amateur photographer Reginald Bull. The family of Bert Healey donated the album to us to share on our website. Bert Healey was big friends with Reg Bull hence the “behind the scenes” photographs.
More on Reg Bull can be found in this article.

My mother, Doreen, was an usherette so we used to go to the cinema 2 or 3 times a week, and were the envy of everyone at school as we had complementary tickets. When the Sound of Music came out the screen wasn’t large enough for the cinemascope film and we were so disappointed! We had to go to the Ritz to see this (complementary as the Palace manager had rung the Ritz manager as a favour). Mum used to sell ice creams during the interval and show you to your seats with a torch.
As an addendum, my brother in law’s relative used to play the organ accompaniment at – I think – the Palace Cinema in Bedworth (now a bingo hall) for the silent films.
Once there was an air raid during the war and my dad had to come out during ‘Gone with the Wind’ there. He never saw the end of the film.
