The previous manor house had the troublesome ghost of an abbot who refused to leave during the Reformation and stayed there for the next three centuries. He was especially active in a room named after him.
When the manor was rebuilt in 1918, the then owner concealed a Bible and gold coins in a wall cavity to try and placate him. Although accounts differ if it was successful or not.
