Possible post-medieval plot boundaries, Wolston Main Street

Description of this historic site

Two segments of ditch were recorded during an archaeological evaluation carried out to the rear of the Red Lion. They were at right angles and parallel to the main road through the village, suggesting that both may have functioned as plot boundaries. They were filled with a post-medieval domestic assemblage.

Notes about this historic site

1 Two segments of ditch were recorded during an archaeological evaluation carried out to the rear of the Red Lion. They were at right angles and parallel to the main road through the village, suggesting that both may have functioned as plot boundaries. They were filled with a post-medieval domestic assemblage. Domestic occupation is likely to have occurred nearby, to the east of the development site. It is unclear if the two ditches functioned together or if one succeeded the other.
