Notes about this historic site
1 A piece of worked chert-like flint was picked up in 1929 when excavations into the interglacial gravels were being made. The crude flaking and the residual areas of cortex suggested that it might be a fragment from the making of a Palaeolithic implement; but against this view is the fact that the flints shows no traces of ochreous staining nor of ‘batter-marks’ present on other palaeoliths from the area. It is probably therefore a surface find of Neolithic/Bronze Age date.
