Notes about this historic site
1 165sq.m behind Nos 25, 31 and 33 Brook Street was excavated in summer 1973 prior to redevelopment. Anticipated Neolithic remains were noticeably scarce (See WA 1985 and WA 1986). Only 9 sherds and 15 worked flints were found as residual material. Two vessels were represented, both being to the Mildenhall style of Earlier Neolithic decorated pottery. Given the intensity of the medieval and post Medieval use of the area, it seems likely that most of the traces of the Neolithic period must have been destroyed.
2 Excavations published in TBAS in 1992.
