Notes about this historic site
1 A quernstone of uncommon type, in excellent condition, was found while digging for gravel on “The Biggin”, a conical hill traversed by Watling Street. Near it lay some human bones, leaden and stone rings which were probably Roman, and also an ecclesiastical cope fastening of 13th century date. Finds made in 1848. There is a diagram of the quernstone on the old OS card. See also WA4169.
2 15th century iron horse shoe found in Rugby.
