Bramcote Hall was the childhood home of my Mother Annie Vera Gilman and her five sisters. Their father was Percy Gilman a successful farmer. Percy retired in the 1950s and moved with his second wife to a lovely old farmhouse at Shuttington. They were, I believe, the last occupants of Bramcote Hall. My mother loved the house and surrounding countryside. She loved the bluebell wood and the brook where her and her sisters played. She remembered walking to the little church at Walton which had a choir and an organ. Percy Gilman and his wife are buried at Polesworth churchyard.
My great grandparents, my grandmother and two aunts lived at Bramcote many many years ago. My great grandad worked for Percy Gillman and later moved to Shuttington, where he lived in one of many of Mr Gillman’s houses that I believe he rented to his workers. Great stories from those days from him.
