From the late 1950s to the early 1970s, my father worked for Henry Johnson, who lived at the Bury in Offchurch. My father was head herdsman at Ford Farm and used to be responsible for the Highland cattle. He used to show them at the Royal Agricultural Show in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. I remember he used to meet me with a Highland bull in tow when I walked home from school, to get it used to traffic and noise for when he showed it at the Show. The bull was always well behaved, apart from one day when a steamroller trundled very noisily by. I hid in a ditch until my dad had calmed down the bull which was rearing up on its back legs!
