Great pub, I used to drink here in early 1970s. Good beer, a proper pub, no food just a bag of crisps or peanuts if you were hungry. Always full, lots of different characters. Used to have lively conversations in back room with locals, Bernard ‘Bunny’ Wood springs to mind. Highly intellectual and very well read.
You could buy most things in this pub. Coal, cars, water cress etc. Stan Rourke was landlord then, until he died after falling down cellar steps, on Christmas Day, I think it was 1974/5.
